In the dense traffic of today a traffic jam is a common occurrence. For a driver this kind of Stop and Go (S&G) situation is both tiring and uncomfortable. Therefore, a driver assistance system such as S&Gcruise control systems is desired to lessen the driver’s workload.
The current cruise control systems, with the task of only keeping predefined constant velocity or mainly aiming for use on high speed and quite a large safety distance between the preceding and following car, are become less and less meaningful in such traffic conditions.
